Who am I?

Hello!

My name is Andrea Argueta Rosales. I am originally from Seattle, Washington and am a forth-year student studying Comparative History of Ideas, Entrepreneurship, and Informatics at the University of Washington. I am passionate about female empowerment and have been involved with the Undergraduate Women in Business as Director of Philanthropy. I love all things French and Italian and can read from dawn to dusk. My hobbies include: drawing, swimming, and of course reading. I aspire to travel through Europe again and one day even live there.
Core Values

-
Education:
-
When I think of education, I think of my schooling. In my family, education has come first before anything and everything. My education has always been important to me since it is the key to the door of opportunities. This door would lead to experiences that would assist me in advancing my community and myself at the same time. I define education not only as formal schooling but also as experiences.
-
-
Security:
-
I define security as stability and also as the ability to give 100% to everything I am currently working on. When I am secure about my financial and housing situation for example, I can dedicate myself whole- heartedly to my classes and extracurriculars. This is very important, since I don't appreciate uncertainty and work best when I know that everything else in my life is certain and can take on the obstacle’s life throws my way.
-
-
Creativity:
-
Personally, I define creativity as the freedom of expression both in school, work, and personally. It is important to me since I am a believer of innovation and believe that if we don’t promote creativity freely no matter how ridiculous something may seem, it could prevent extraordinary discoveries.
-
-
Success:
-
From my perspective, success means that I have accomplished my goals and continue growing into the person that will be able to empower my community. This is important to me since I am beginning to understand the sacrifices that my parents and loved ones have made for me throughout my childhood to allow me the privilege to have my chance to a stereotypical successful lifestyle. I value success since it allows me to explicitly demonstrate that my parents and loved one’s sacrifices were not in vain.
-
-
Peace:
-
I identify peace as a feeling of utter bliss. I know I am at peace when I feel like a little cloud floating. This is important to me since I aspire to enter the business world, specifically consulting and know that if I don’t have peace in my personal or work life, then I will not be happy.

Leadership Definition & Philosophy
Whether it is a extravagant stage or merely standing up in front of a crowd a humble attitude is important. Long nights and early mornings in order to achieve said award brings along determination. The initiative that is built from within, not fed from a silver spoon. A creativity that awes those who witness the masterpiece their paint brush has created. A burning passion for change and the prospect of the world we can create. No matter their origin, age, or gender a leader should always keep in touch with these five qualities mentioned above. Overtime, my understanding of leadership has evolved to begin understanding the challenges and principles that make leaders. For example, when I was in high school, I believed that a leader was someone that held a position and title. This led me to believe that I could not be a leader since I was merely a student or to be dubious of those that believed otherwise. As I came into college, I was exposed to role models and mentors that educated me on what leadership looks like. Throughout these conversations I was able to understand the following, leadership does not come with a title. It is a continuous practice that shapes and evolves as we grow and develop ourselves. Leadership embodies vulnerability and bravery as strengths, not weaknesses. Leaders take breaks. Leaders are always learning. Leaders come in all different shapes, sizes, and ages. This is the beginning of my understanding of the term, leader.
Leadership Identities
Aspiring Human: Self Developer
Before college, I didn’t realize how much a person could grow, thinking I was at my limit. I have begun to understand to aspire to be a better version of myself. I wish to develop myself further after realizing the various gaps in my knowledge and expertise. I believe that in continuously furthering my skillsets, experiences, and knowledge; I will grow into someone with the capabilities to provoke change in our society.

Advocate for female empowerment
Since my freshmen year, I have been with the Undergraduate Women in Business, engaging with leaders with the passion for female empowerment equal to my own. As a female of color, I feel it my duty to help drive the efforts in the business world yet, appreciate the opportunity to encourage and inspire the younger generations to follow their dreams despite if it is a male dominant industry or not. Female empowerment is important to me since I believe in a future where the following generation of females can freely pursue a career in whichever industry they choose.

Supporter and Driver for First Generation students
For the entirety of my life I felt that I have been walking with a blindfold covering my eyes, unsure where to turn to or how to go about something. I vividly recall moments during my Husky experience that I felt confused and lonely since I could not turn to my loved ones for answers. These memories drive me to assist other First Generation students so they can feel supported during their college experience.
My "Why"
I seek learning experiences that allow me to develop myself as a leader. I center a lot of my work around female empowerment, equality for underrepresented groups, and general leadership development. I use self -understanding, my personal values, resilience, excellence, vision, and organization to name a few, help me achieve my why. I believe that in order to empower my community I need to be able to develop myself into a great leader. I get out of bed to fulfill my dreams and push my community forward. In building up my community, I believe we can craft more opportunities for underrepresented individuals and open doors for those that normally would not have access to said doors. I do what I do because I know that if I don’t, someone else won’t and that doesn't sit well with me. Many times, others could be fearful of starting or feel lonely throughout the process. I do not experience these feelings as I continue throughout my self development journey. I believe that if others witness me growing as a leader, they will be motivated to join me. It is up to me to step up to the plate and bring others up throughout my journey.
A Leadership Oriented Future
My leadership is ever evolving. It is not a daily to-do list that can be checked off. It is an ever growing and evolving life skill that is always under continuous improvement. There is no such thing as perfection when it comes to leadership. In the future, I envision leadership as I start my career in Corporate America and begin to lead teams and become a mentor for college students. I see myself engaging with leadership as I climb up the corporate ladder and bring up my community throughout the process by advocating for underrepresented groups.
